    How it works: Barcode Generator

    1

    Choose a format

EAN-13 for retail products, Code 128 for warehouses and your own numbers. The other formats are in the list.

    2

    Enter the content

Type the number or text, one per line for several barcodes. The preview shows right away whether the code is valid.

    3

    Adjust the appearance

Set height, bar width and the human-readable text below the code as needed.

    4

    Download

Save as PNG or SVG for graphics programs, or as a PDF with a label sheet to print.

    Using barcodes correctly

    EAN-13 for retail

The 13-digit EAN appears on almost every product in the supermarket. The first digits point to the country of the issuing agency, not the product's country of origin. If you sell through retailers, you get your numbers from GS1 and just generate the barcode here.

Code 128 for your own numbers

No registration is needed for warehouse locations, inventory numbers, membership cards or serial numbers. Code 128 handles letters, digits and symbols while staying compact. Any standard scanner reads it.

    Printing it legibly

Black bars on a white background scan most reliably. Keep a light margin on both sides of the code, the quiet zone. Choose "Actual size" in the print dialog so the code isn't scaled down. A quick test scan with your phone before the big print run saves trouble.

    Labels on a sheet

The PDF is set up for A4 label sheets with 24 fields of 70 × 37 mm, three across and eight down. This size is available without a border from many manufacturers. Several codes fill the fields in order, and more than 24 codes create extra pages.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Which barcode format do I need?

For retail products use EAN-13, or UPC-A in North America. Code 128 suits warehouses, inventory or ID cards, since it takes letters and digits of any length. ITF-14 appears on shipping cartons, and Code 39 and Codabar show up in older systems and libraries.

Can I make up an EAN number myself?

For your own use, yes. If you sell goods through retailers or marketplaces, you need registered numbers from GS1, otherwise retailers will reject the product or the number may already belong to another item. For internal purposes, Code 128 with your own number is the simpler choice.

    What is the check digit?

The last digit of an EAN, UPC or ITF-14 code is calculated from the other digits. Scanners use it to catch reading errors. If you enter only twelve digits for EAN-13, the generator adds the check digit. If an entered check digit is wrong, it shows the correct one.

Can I create many barcodes at once?

Yes. Put each code on its own line. The PDF arranges all codes on A4 label sheets with 24 fields of 70 × 37 mm, three across and eight down.

    Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. The barcodes are generated entirely in your browser, nothing is sent to a server.
